Acknowledgments

This edition is the work of others. Its English is Sir Lancelot Brenton’s and the King James translators’; its New Testament text and its paragraphs are Scrivener’s; its Greek New Testament is Robinson and Pierpont’s, and its first instructions for conforming the King James Version to it are William Pierpont’s own. The Revised Version supplied wording for changes in both Testaments. Robert Adam Boyd’s Updated Brenton English Septuagint gave the lines of the Old Testament poetry, and his American Standard Version Byzantine Text and Text-Critical English New Testament supplied wording for the New Testament where the King James tradition had none.[1] Every reading of Codex Alexandrinus was verified against Henry Barclay Swete’s edition of the Septuagint, and David McCalman Turpie’s classification underlies the quotation links. The tables of chapters and verses on the website were worked out with the help of STEP Bible’s versification data. We are grateful to all of them; the choices, and the errors, are ours.

Notes

  1. The four Gospel subscriptions and the renderings we have adapted for the New Testament are taken from Robert Adam Boyd’s The Text-Critical English New Testament (© 2021 Robert Adam Boyd), licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), source edition https://archive.org/details/tcent. We print the subscriptions as he gives them and have brought the renderings borrowed for the scriptural text into the English of the King James Version; as the licence requires of an adaptation, this edition does not bear the names The Text-Critical English New Testament or Byzantine Text Version. ↩
